After thirteen years in New Jersey (six of them at Rutgers), I relocated to Oregon (my home state) almost two years ago. I am now happily teaching Methods, Sociology of Mental Health and Sociology of Health and Medicine at the University of Oregon. I’ve been thrilled to have the opportunity to teach part-time, especially in this economy! This past summer, I did a talk on Asian immigration (pulling many details from my dissertation) for the Oregon Council for the Humanities Summer Teacher Institute. This year, in addition to teaching, I’ve been advising two undergraduate theses and am finding that surprisingly rewarding. When I’m not writing syllabi or lectures or grading papers, I’m at home gardening or knitting, or chauffeuring my three kids to their activities. I also share my life with my husband, Dan Tichenor (also formerly of Rutgers and now also at the University of Oregon) and one neurotic cat.
